Born and bred in Newcastle, I am a Registered Nurse with a passion for enabling quality of life in individuals living with dementia and their loved ones.
I graduated at the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Nursing in 2019 and in 2022 I completed my Masters of Dementia with the University of Tasmania, being one of seven people in the world with this qualification at the time.
I have experience in the Aged Care sector in a range of roles from Hospitality, Personal Care Assistant, Registered Nurse and as Quality & Education Manager. I have experience in home care, low-high care settings, palliative care and high level behaviour units (SDCP).
My passion for Dementia care began back in high school when I did voluntary work with a local nursing home. It was then that I realised how much the older generation have to share and just how interesting their lives are. I felt that even those who couldn’t verbalise still could tell so much through facial expression, and this must be cherished.
Throughout my studies, I conducted research on the stigma associated with dementia and the correlation between stigma and access to support services. I discovered that due to the stigma, a lot of families don’t receive adequate support post-diagnosis and are left unaware of what to expect and how to care for their loved one.
I am dedicated to providing high quality care to those living with Dementia and their loved ones. Through education and person-centred care I feel that quality of life can be maintained or improved.
